Early Archer at 2nd Site. The town originally named Deer Hammock was moved from the fi4rst site when the Florida Railroad, built by Senator Yulee, came through in 1859. The buildings ere moved through the use of logs which were under the building and were rolled along. The build to the right of Hodgson store was known as Well's store. It is now the Masonic Lodge. Wells's store was unique in that it had an elevator for loading grain. The road was part of the old Tamiami trail (Rte 41) which went from Valdosta, Georgia to Tampa Florida then later to Miami.
